Ranny Recommends: Goldfrapp

Goldfrapp: Just the other day, I was trying to decipher a journal entry written in the French vernacular by my awesome friend [info]injenuity and noticed that she was listening to this amazing electropop group from the UK. I've been listening to them for a while now and think they're amazing. They bring so many fresh elements to music and in a sense, seem to almost create a genre of their own. Some of my favorite songs evoke beautiful, visual images that inspire me and I enjoy music that encourages creativity while still maintaining an appealing and rare sound. Furthermore, their songs are conveyed with much thought as they are concise with the given track title. This is certainly a group you should all be willing to hear.

Goldfrapp - Hairy Trees
Goldfrapp - Ride A White Horse
Goldfrapp - Slide In
Goldfrapp - Koko

'Hairy Trees' is a prime example of how Goldfrapp exemplifies a unique sound to encapsulate the idiom within the track title. Hear it for yourselves and hopefully you'll understand how amazing their music really is. Let me know if you happen to enjoy any of these tracks, too! Its always great to read opinions. Speaking of great --

The amazing, [info]conga_chili sent me this beautiful watercolour illustration of a fox inspired by her surroundings while traversing through Paris. I received it several weeks ago, but was too busy to scan it in and promptly thank her. It was really sweet of her to send me a postcard while enjoying her European excursion. Thank you so much Clio, wherever you are! I'll get you back!

I love Goldfrap's sound. It got me toe tapping a few weeks ago at work during a really boring stretch of time spent on some god awful website i had to create. Anyway, crazy good sound! I haven't heard these other ones though so thanks!

That watercolor is fantastic by the way ;D

Hey pal, toe-tapping songs are the best. I have heaps more if you're interested later on, perhaps I can send you more on one of those silly instant messenger programs.

I just love the ending of 'Hairy Trees' and the traditional-asiany inspired sound of 'Koko', now thats truly, crazy, good. lol.

I wish I could send tuneage as easily as you! They sound very much like your types o' tunes, the sort to listen to while you make your own toons~ What an awesome looking fox! She did an awesome job--I'm even more impressed because I don't trust water/paint at all... especially not the two together! Right on~

lol. hey Nicholas! haha, what a formal way to say your name. Yeap, well, I am really much into electropop, mainly from Europe cos America doesn't have good music at the moment (IMO). I actually have a very cheapo set of watercolours and have used them from time to time, but I tend to use markers in place of them most of the time. Once I am done with school, I plan to focus on other mediums and perfecting my watercolour skills. Being versatile is something I always aim for. (: Be good, coolz mcG. ;)

Randy, I'm glad you have such a good taste in music. Alison is my goddess!

You picked out some good tracks to represent the 'Frapp, although there is a conspicuous absence (the gorgeous 'Time Out From the World' from the new album!). 'Ride a White Horse' is great, 'Slide In' doesn't do much for me, and of course 'Hairy Trees' and 'Koko' are brilliant.

'Hairy Trees' definitely strikes me as sounding nothing like their new album, though. In a way I sometimes wish they still sounded like this.

I was actually planning to cover a Swedish artist by the name of 'September' today, but had remembered wanting to also post music by Goldfrapp for a long time now. You know, 'Time Out From the World' is actually still growing on me. I like 'Slide In's eighties inspired sound and thought many would enjoy that, so that was the motive behind me posting that one. lol. oh, and the--AH-HA's AH-HA's.

Do you know of 'September'? Let me know so I can send you some songs, I think you'll really like her.

Ah, I've heard of September but I don't think I really know anything by her. Expose me!

'Time Out From the World' is definitely a grower....so maybe you're right in not uploading it. First impressions are pretty important -- I think 'Strict Machine' and 'Ooh La La' are pretty good for those.

Alrighty, I'll make sure to find you online soon. I too don't know much about September, but her music is lovely...and you know how Sweden has loads of amazing pop artists coming out of there! So, it settled, you'll love her. lol.

Thanks for the music recs and the detailed review! *downloading* I certainly need some new styles to listen to other than the mundane backwash that is popular these days..And ah, gorgeous fox, I do love how the colors sort of bleed together~ I was actually going to try out watercolor sometimes tomorrow, ah, I dread the outcome. But that certainly was thoughtful of Clio, I hope she is having a soupacool time overseas (?)!

lol @ your icon. Its nice to have a versatile taste in music and to tell you the truth, I am not that extremely open minded when it comes to it. Theres some genres that I just can't listen to or they will eventually induce lunacy; and its not hip-hop and country like most teenage kids respond to nowadays. hah.

I know that you listen to a lot of j-pop/j-reggae (lol jk), right? Perhaps you can share some of those songs on your livejournal once you get the chance. I used to listen to J-pop a lot back in high school when I was addicted to anime. lol. The current Japanese artists I currently love are The Pizzicato 5, Capsule, and I really enjoy The Fantastic Plastic Machine. I don't have a lot of their songs, but I listen to them on their websites or if not, YouTube. haha. Know any of them? They're all lovely.

Oh, and I agree with you about the watercolours, my cheap set aren't good enough I think. I've gotten away with mediocre results, but I rather buy a really nice set to practise with. Yeah, I have no clue where Clio is at right now. My post card tells me that it was her last day in Paris...so I wonder where she went after that. Hmm.
